Bake Off fans aren’t happy about Phil and Holly’s fake presenter ‘announcement’

Too soon guys, too soon

ITV daytime show This Morning has further upset already distraught Bake Off fans by claiming it was going to unveil the new replacements for departing presenters Mel and Sue… only for it to turn out to be one big wind up.

It’s too soon for this kind of tomfoolery. We’re still fragile. Confirmation of Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc’s exit only came yesterday after news broke that the show is to move from the BBC to Channel 4. We’re still having to have comforting cups of tea (and cake, obviously).

This Morning had gone the whole hog too, with a mocked up image boasting the outline of two people with question marks on them.

But then the show started and it was all just a big chat about what had happened so far, with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby declaring that they could ‘officially announce’ they wouldn’t be the new hosts, despite having had a go at what they’d look like in the tent.

It probably sounded funny in the pitch meeting. Alas, for Bake Off fans it was about as successful as a sinking soufflé.

Now, excuse us while we pop the kettle back on…
