Robert Downey Jr in Doctor Who? “Anything is possible”

The Iron Man star thinks Doctor Who is an "incredible series" and says it's "possible" he could appear on the BBC show

In the last 24 hours we’ve learnt that Sherlock Holmes star Robert Downey Jr is envious of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock and that if he we were a pizza, he’d be a garlic, extra cheese, onions, spinach and pepperoni.

But here’s some even bigger news.

On his Reddit Ask Me Anything thread last night, the actor responded to a user who asked whether he would ever go for a role in Doctor Who if given the chance.

“It’s funny you’d bring that up. A writer asked me to watch a particular episode about a month ago, in hopes of helping us break a story on a project.

“An incredible series. Anything’s possible.”

A Reddit user wrote what we were all thinking:

“I think the world would explode if you were to show up in Doctor Who.”

But who would he play? If he wasn’t The Doctor then we reckon he’d be evil megalomaniac Time Lord The Master. He’s got the facial hair for it. Facial hair which, incidentally, he also explained in his Reddit feed.

“It started with the first Iron Man: a guy named Pedro from Shave of Beverly Hills. I mean, this guy’s an artist. He’s like the Edward Scissorhands of Mustaches and Beards. And then, once you set a standard, it’s all about upkeep and modulating it.”

So there we have it. Robert Downey Jr’s facial hair is ready to take on The Doctor’s eyebrows…
