Let the cobbles see the comedian! Take Me Out frontman Paddy McGuinness is heading for Weatherfield as a “wilderness survival enthusiast” this August.
The comedian and actor, best known for his television presenting work and role in Peter Kay’s seminal comedy Phoenix Nights, will apparently “give Bear Grylls and Ray Mears a run for their money” when his character Dougie Ryan meets up with the Tinkers and the Dobbs on a camping holiday.
We’re promised “hilarious consequences” when the cheeky Lancashire lad puts Kirk, Beth, Craig, Chesney, Sinead, Tyrone and Fiz through their paces in what sounds very much like Carry On Camping meets Total Wipeout.
Paddy, who’s acting credits also include That Peter Kay Thing, Max and Paddy and The Delivery Man, is understood to be filming his appearances in the soap next month.
His six episode run in the series should win him bragging rights over his friend Peter Kay who appeared in just two episodes of Corrie in 2004 as drayman Eric Gartside. However, Kay did appear previously in one episode as a shopfitter in 1997, so who knows how you truly decide the winner in that rarefied game of Corrie one-upmanship.
Coronation Street producer Stuart Blackburn said: “It’s an absolute delight to be working with Paddy who is a talented actor with a flair for comedy that will ensure he fits right in with the Corrie cast.”
Paddy McGuinness said: “Being asked to appear in Coronation Street was a very special moment for me. I remember Peter telling me how much he enjoyed his guest spot on the show and I can’t wait to get started. An iconic and much loved show not just in the UK but around the world. The character I’ll be playing is very funny and I’m sure the Corrie fans will love him.”
And remember: no likey, no watchy…
