The MTV Movie Awards is the Oscars’ irreverent younger brother, a star-studded event that hands out such prestigious accolades as ‘best shirtless scene’ and ‘best WTF moment’.
The most surprising sight at last night’s glitzy ceremony in LA was Robert Downey Jnr’s fellow Avengers stars Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jenny Renner bowing down to present him with the Generation Award – or as he preferred to call it “the recognition I so desire”.
More predictable was Dave Franco being the butt of the joke when he and Zac Efron won best duo for Neighbours, and Efron showing off his perfectly sculpted pectorals while receiving the award for the viewer-voted best shirtless performance. Again. (We’ve included them in the interests of full disclosure but for modesty’s sake have left that picture until last).
Host Amy Schumer looked like she was auditioning for a role in the next Avengers movie, and took aim at herself and her host in an opening monologue – “MTV is the one network that refuses to air music.”
Best movie went to The Fault in Our Stars, while leading lady Shailene Woodley (pictured enjoying a selfie with the author of the novel, John Green) won best female performance, the Trailblazer Award and best kiss with co-star Ansel Elgort.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson handed out the final award for the evening, and deserved one for “shoutiest presenter”. Not that Jimmy Kimmel noticed…
