Terry Wogan to play a TV host in Chris O’Dowd’s Moone Boy

The former Radio 2 and Blankety Blank presenter ought to be able to play this part perfectly...

Terry Wogan will have a cameo in the third series of Chris O’Dowd’s Sky1 sitcom Moone Boy.

The former Radio 2 presenter is to play the host of a funny home video programme. It shouldn’t be too much of a stretch thanks to his years presenting Saturday evening favourites Blankety Blank and Auntie’s Bloomers on BBC1.

Nor is Moone Boy Wogan’s first attempt at acting. He made an appearance on The Archers in 1989, playing a charity golf tournament at Grey Gables, and turned up in series two of BBC3’s Being Human.

Other guest stars appearing in the third series include Sharon Horgan, who can currently be seen in Channel 4 sitcom Catastrophe and will play Sharon Morgan (geddit?), a “high powered, yoga-loving entrepreneur and Liam’s ex-girlfriend”. John Sessions will appear as Dr Steven Gnot, local conspiracy theorist and radio presenter of “Believe It Or Not with Dr Steven Gnot”.

Moone Boy recently won best sitcom at the British Comedy Awards. Set in Ireland and co-written by comic actor Chris O’Dowd, it’s a semi-autobiographical sitcom about an adolescent with an imaginary friend.
