The casting news comes following an earlier announcement that Aidan Connor’s sister Kate and father Johnny (Richard Hawley) would be hitting Weatherfield in September.

Bailey, who played PC Mel Ryder in The Bill from 2008 to 2010, filmed her first scenes today and will be seen on screen from November.

Her arrival will see Caz turning up for Kate’s birthday and making plans to set the date for their wedding.

The actress, who has spent the last four years living in Los Angeles, said: “Too much sun isn’t good for ya.  Really excited to be swapping my surfboard for a brolly, and joining the cast on the nation’s favorite show!”

Bailey’s other screen credits include roles on Blue Murder and The Mentalist.
