Alan Rickman has assembled a star-studded cast for his first foray behind the camera in 17 years. The 69-year-old actor – best known to many for playing Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films – last took the director’s chair in 1997 for The Winter Guest starring Emma Thompson and real-life mother Phyllida Law.
This time Rickman’s calling upon the services of Kate Winslet to play Sabine De Barra, a landscape gardener hired to work for Louis XIV at his not-yet-completed palace at Versailles. The Oscar-winning actress is joined on screen by Rickman (as the French monarch), Matthias Schoenaerts, Helen McCrory, Stanley Tucci and Jennifer Ehle in this lavish costume drama.
