Famous for: Singing chart-toppers like Groovejet, Take Me Home and Murder on the Dancefloor
“I’m a big believer in serendipity. At this point in my life I feel like I can really enjoy this and I don’t have any fear about looking daft, so I’ll just go for it!”
Bio: Singer/songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor (who happens to be the daughter of former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis) made her first foray into the music scene as the lead singer of indie rock band Theaudience. But the group soon disbanded leaving Ellis-Bextor to strike out on her own as a solo artist.
And strike out she did, with the two times platinum album Read My Lips in 2001. An album which featured two of the songs she’s most well known for: Murder on the Dancefloor and Take Me Home.
Shoot from the Hip soon followed, peaking at number 19 in the UK. Her third album Trip the Light Fantastic was received a little bettter, reaching number seven in the album charts while her fourth, Make a Scene, only made it to number 33.
She’s been back in the recording studio, though, and her new album is set for release this autumn, apparently. Just as she starts appearing on Strictly. What a coincidence, eh?
Away from the microphone, Ellis-Bextor has been busy marrying The Feeling bassist Richard Jones and giving birth to three little boys called Sonny, Kit and Ray. Aww.
But how will the porcelain-skinned star fare on Strictly? Well, she’s certainly no stranger to the polished dance floor. Let’s just hope there’s no bloodshed.
Time to take bets on how many time that joke’s going to be made throughout the series…
