The Spanish resort of San Antonio on the party island of Ibiza was also high up on the list of destinations with the most impolite cabbies, along with Majorca’s Magalouf and the Arab city of Dubai.

Meanwhile, Greek island Rhodes and Marmaris in Turkey were voted the places with the friendliest taxi drivers, along with New York City and Playa de las America in Tenerife.

Eighty-six per cent of those who took part in the survey considered a “talkative” driver to be a friendly one, while 42 per cent said a friendly driver was one who shared their local advice about an area.

Fifty-two percent of voters said that a friendly taxi driver was a “helpful’ one.

Chris Clarkson, managing director of Airporttransfers.co.uk, which conducted the poll, explained: “Taxi rides around the world can be totally different experiences, depending on the time and the place.

“You could stumble upon the most helpful taxi driver in the world, who gives you a guided tour of the area you’re in on the way to your end destination, or you could have someone who just grunts in response to anything you say.”
