No sooner had Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey won Love Island 2016 did talk turn to whether they’d make the jump to The Only Way Is Essex – and now we can confirm it IS happening.
TOWIE bosses have previously had their doubts: the show doesn’t want to become a “dumping ground” for Love Island stars, what with last year’s runner-up Jon Clark already making the move.
But Cara and Nathan proved so popular on the ITV2 steamy reality show – which saw them couple up (totes official, like) and scoop the £50,000 prize money – it’s clearly an opportunity too good to miss.
And, handily, their entry doesn’t require any ‘shoehorning’ as Nathan is actually best mates with TOWIE’s own Tommy Mallet. In fact, it was Tommy who pushed for Nathan to be on Love Island in the first place, telling his pal to “be himself” and he’d “win it”. Tommy clearly knows what he’s talking about.
Filming is taking place today and we’re told the four are off on a double date at a bowling alley. It’s due to be a one-off appearance, but something tells me these two will prove popular enough to stick around.
Meanwhile, Gemma Collins appears to be making a slow but steady comeback. Despite leaving the show, ‘GC’ has appeared in almost half of the episodes this series, so we wouldn’t be too shocked to see a full-time return from her next time around either.
Nathan and Cara’s appearance will be shown in Sunday’s episode.
The Only Way Is Essex continues at 10:00pm on Wednesday on ITVBe
