There’s a storm coming. If the poster for Terminator Genisys is anything to go by, it’s a dust storm.
Instead of an image of stars Emilia Clarke or Matt Smith, the poster shows a classic T-800 robot skull (it’s what Arnold Schwarzenegger looks like under the skin) dissolving into sand. Like an hour glass. Because time travel. Geddit?
In the background, Brad Fiedel’s iconic score hammers away, reminding fans of the original 1984 movie.
As the horrendous name implies, Genisys takes the Terminator timeline back earlier than it’s ever gone before (fans of the short lived TV show, please shush). Emilia Clarke plays Sarah Connor, a role made famous by Linda Hamilton, but that’s not the only change.
As in the first film, Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) is sent back in time to stop robots from murdering resistance leader John Connor (Jason Clarke) or his mother Sarah. But those meddling machines have already intervened. Reese finds a changed history, where Sarah Connor was orphaned at an early age and raised by a friendly T-800 (Arnie).
So it sounds like The Terminator meets Terminator 2. Also Matt Smith is in it, playing a soldier in the dystopian future.
A trailer for the reboot/rewrite/whatever is expected this Thursday. Until then, we’ll just have to watch Termiantor 2 for the 14,000th time.
