Marty McFly’s Back to the Future Hoverboard to go up for auction

The iconic item will go under the hammer at a public auction of movie memorabilia in London’s Westfield shopping centre

Great Scott! Marty McFly’s Hoverboard from Back to the Future II could be yours – if you happen to have a spare £15 grand knocking about, that is…

The iconic piece of cinema history – a futuristic floating update to the down-to-earth skateboard, as ridden by Michael J Fox – will be among the items going under the hammer at an auction of movie memorabilia at the Vue cinema in London’s Westfield shopping centre in October, and is being valued at between £10,000 and £15,000.

If the price tag is a little rich for your blood, you can at least get a look at the Hoverboard for free as it will be part of a display of choice pieces being shown off in an exhibition at the cinema in the run up to the auction.

Other items going up for sale range in estimated value from £80 for a film crew jacket from the set of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace to £80,000 for an aluminium chair designed by the late HR Giger (the man behind the Alien xenomorph) for sci-fi epic Dune.

Captain Nemo’s Nautilus Car from The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is expected to fetch between £40,000 and £60,000, while a Golden Ticket from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is rated at a tasty £15-20,000, and the leather biker outfit worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger himself in Terminator 2: Judgment Day could go for up to £22,000.

The two week exhibition opens at Vue Westfield on Thursday 1 October and runs until the day of the auction, Thursday 16 October.

Here’s a reminder of the Hoverboard in action. Remember, it could be yours in time for 2015…
