David Beckham to be the next Bear Grylls? The footballer is to star in an Amazon travel show

The former England captain has just returned from a two-week expedition in the Brazilian jungle, where he was making a BBC1 documentary to coincide with the 2014 football World Cup

In a one off 90-minute BBC documentary, David Beckham will camp in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest and go fishing with fellow travellers Dave Gardner and Derek White, and filmmaker Anthony Mandler.


The former England captain has just returned from the two-week expedition in South America. BBC controller Charlotte Moore, said: “In this special documentary for BBC1, David Beckham embarks on a top secret expedition to the Amazon that will see him encounter the other side of Brazil and journey through the tropical rainforest, a TV first for the global icon.”

Helen Jackson, managing director of BBC Worldwide content, explained: “This is an unforgettable documentary set in the heart of the dense Amazon rainforest following David Beckham.”

Beckham is upping his TV presence; he will also appear in a special edition of Only Fools and Horses for Sport Relief.  

The unnamed travel documentary will be aired on BBC One in June, to coincide with the World Cup in Brazil.
