The BBC News website was experiencing technical issues on the morning of New Year’s Eve, with many urls and links returning 500 errors, while other BBC sites including sport were also affected.
The BBC’s catch-up service iPlayer was also intermittently unavailable.
As users queried the source of the problems, while others commiserated with BBC journalists regarding the timing, the Corporation promised via its Twitter account that it was aware of the problems and was working on a fix but did not specify what was causing the issues.
We're aware of a technical issue affecting the BBC website and are working to fix this now. We'll update you as soon as we can.
