Coronation Street actress Hayley Tamaddon has revealed that she is devastated to be leaving the role of Andrea Beckett behind.
“I’m very sad. I’m heartbroken, actually. I love this job more than anything,” she told RadioTimes.com at last night’s British Soap Awards. “Corrie is one big family. Everyone looks after each other. And I’ve settled here and found my feet. I’ve made a million really good friends and it’s going to be hard to say goodbye.”
Tamaddon – who has played Andrea for the last three years – also disclosed that Andrea is set to exit alongside Craig Charles’s character Lloyd Mullaney during September’s live episode. Charles announced last month that he was leaving in order to film two new series of sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf.
“We’re going to be leaving together in the live episode. It’s a really good story and I couldn’t ask for anything better than to be going out with the live. So, I’m just going to keep my head up and look forward to the future.
“There are a lot of fantastic writers out there producing some amazing television. So I’ve got to get back into auditioning for things now.”
When asked what her dream project would be, the actress replied: “Well, Sally Wainwright – who does Happy Valley – is a fantastic writer. Danny Brocklehurst, too. I want to work for really good production companies that produce really good dramas.”
However, Tamaddon did also reveal that Andrea could one day make a return. “I’m an ITV girl and ITV has always looked after me. So who knows what will happen? They tell me that the door has been left open at Corrie and that there might be a way to come back at some point.
“And I don’t have to come back with Lloyd. I could come back with any handsome man. Answers on a postcard!”
