Beryl and Betty, Independent Women

Don't stop them now: the Sony Award-winning OAP duo are having a good time doing cover versions of famous tracks - listen exclusively here

Beryl Renwick and Betty Smith – 86 and 90 years of age, respectively – are undoubtedly the hottest pensioner property in Britain at the moment. Earlier this month they became the oldest ever winners of a coveted Gold Sony Radio Academy Award for their Saturday-evening Radio Humberside show.

The formula that’s won the ladies so many dedicated followers combines their relaxed, cheeky banter with DJ David Reeves, their opinions on the latest music releases, their love of Canadian crooner Michael Buble – and Beryl and Betty’s own forays into pop music.

The ladies’ cover versions of songs including Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now and Beyonce’s Independent Woman are utterly hilarious and need to be heard to be appreciated.

Listen to those very tracks below, courtesy of David Reeves and the BBC, catch Beryl and Betty’s show every Saturday at 6pm on Radio Humberside or catch up with them on BBC iPlayer.
