Coronation Street: Rita to be diagnosed with a brain tumour

Will Rita's life come to a tragic end?

Rita Tanner will be discover that she has a brain tumour in an upcoming episode of Coronation Street.

Corrie fans have been concerned that soap legend Rita’s current forgetfulness was a sign that she was suffering with dementia. However, doctors will give the soap heroine a different diagnosis later this year.

But reports have emerged today that Rita (played since 1964 by Barbara Knox) will reject emergency surgery out of fear.

A source told the Sun: “It has been suggested she [Rita] might have dementia, but she does not.

“In fact, she will be diagnosed with a tumour and her doctors will say there is a serious risk she will die if they don’t remove it. But Rita is terrified that she could not know who she is, or recognise her friends.

“All the indications are that this will end tragically.”

This last sentence will no doubt send a chill down the spine of viewers who have seen Rita triumph over adversity on many occasions down the decades.

High-profile storylines have included her ordeal at the hands of abusive partner Alan Bradley, a tram crash that found Rita trapped under falling stock in the Kabin and a prior brush with death thanks to carbon monoxide poisoning.

But could this latest drama result in a tragic exit for Rita?
