Community and Mindy Project director to helm Lego Movie sequel

Rob Schrab will take over from original directing duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller for Warner Bros' second trip to Bricksburg

Everything is set to be awesome for Rob Schrab, who has just signed on to direct the sequel to The Lego Movie.

The comic book creator, actor and producer – who has directed episodes of US comedies Parks and Recreation, Community and The Mindy Project – will take the reins from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who helmed the first animated outing for Emmet Brickowski, an ordinary mini-figure caught up in an extraordinary prophesy. 

Miller and Lord aren’t leaving Bricksburg altogether though. The pair have written the script for the follow-up and have signed on to produce alongside Dan Lin and Roy Lee. 

“The Lego Movie captivated critics and audiences on a global scale with its irresistible blend of humour, imagination and fun,” said Greg Silverman,Warner Bros president of creative development and worldwide production. “Warner Bros is excited to build our relationship with The Lego Group with this new adventure, and we join them in welcoming the multi-talented Rob Schrab to the Lego family as he takes the helm of The Lego Movie Sequel.”

The Lego Movie, which features the voice talent of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman, has earned critical acclaim since its cinema release in February 2014. The film’s Oscar-nominated song Everything is Awesome was recently performed at the 87th annual Academy Awards.
