Cabin Pressure starring Benedict Cumberbatch nominated for best comedy at Audio Drama Awards 2014

John Finnemore's Radio 4 series receives two nods while Simon Russell Beale and Lacey Turner are both nominated in acting categories

John Finnemore’s Radio 4 series Cabin Pressure starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Roger Allam has been nominated for best scripted comedy and best scripted comedy drama at the 2014 Audio Drama Awards.

The shortlist – announced this morning ahead of the 26 January ceremony – also gave a nod to Simon Russell Beale in the best actor in an audio drama category for his work on Copenhagen, pitching him against Lee Ross in King David and Joseph Millson in The Real George Orwell: Jura.

Lacey Turner and Shaun Dooley are both nominated in the supporting categories for their performances in The One About the Social Worker and The Gothic Imagination: Frankenstein, meanwhile Marcia Warren (Tony and Rose) will compete against Christine Bottomley (My Boy) and Carly Bawden (The Colour of Milk) for the best actress prize.

In the year of the Time Lord’s 50th anniversary, Doctor Who: Dark Eyes is in the mix for best online or non-broadcast audio drama, up against Hood: Noble Secrets and Trimble.

The shortlist was whittled down from more than 180 entries, judged by a team of panellists that included Ruth Jones, Imogen Stubbs, and Stephen Tompkinson. Winners will be announced at the Radio Theatre at BBC Broadcasting House during an event hosted by Lenny Henry and Tony Hall. Past recipients have included David Tennant (2012) and Andrew Scott (2013) for best actor and Game of Thrones star Michelle Fairley for best actress.
