Shia LaBeouf is on mesmerising form as a traumatised US marine in new trailer for Man Down

A performance “seldom seen since the days of Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift” say Variety

Shia LaBeouf plumbs his emotional depths in a new trailer for war thriller film Man Down, which sees him as a US marine returning from the Middle East to post-apocalyptic America in search of his wife Natalie (Kate Mara) and their young son.

Man Down, we should hasten to add, is very, VERY different to British sitcom Man Down starring Greg Davies as disillusioned teacher Dan. There will probably be a lot more crying, judging by the trailer.

The movie was screened at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, but is only just gearing up for wider release.

LaBeouf’s character seems to be battling PTSD after some kind of violent incident involving his “battle buddy” and best friend. A tearful LaBeouf is seen talking with Gary Oldman, who asks: “Is there a reason you don’t want to discuss what happened in that room?”

The movie has had mixed reviews, but critics have praised LaBeouf’s acting chops, with Variety saying that the performance is the kind “seldom seen since the days of Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift”.
