Coronation Street: Paddy McGuinness makes his debut as wilderness man Dougie

The Cobbles' answer to Bear Grylls meets Fiz, Tyrone, Beth and Kirk on their camping holiday

It’s very nearly the moment Take Me Out, Max and Paddy, and Phoenix Nights fans have been waiting for: Paddy McGuinness makes his Coronation Street debut this month and it certainly looks as though he’s really embraced his new role.

McGuinness, whose starring turn on the soap was announced back in April, meets Fiz, Tyrone, Kirk, Beth and co on their camping holiday and certainly seems to make an impression on the group.

He’s playing a “wilderness survival enthusiast” by the name of Dougie Ryan, and we’re promised that he’ll be putting the happy campers through their paces. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: It sounds like Carry on Camping meets Total Wipeout.

McGuinness’ Dougie is said to “give Bear Grylls and Ray Mears a run for their money”, and will enjoy a six-episode stint.

“Being asked to appear in Coronation Street was a very special moment for me” McGuinness said at the time.

“I remember Peter [Kay] telling me how much he enjoyed his guest spot on the show and I can’t wait to get started. An iconic and much loved show not just in the UK but around the world. The character I’ll be playing is very funny and I’m sure the Corrie fans will love him.”

You can put his theory to the test when Coronation Street airs these scenes from August 17th.
