It appears London will not be privy to the sight of George Clooney in running shorts at next year’s marathon after all.
Contrary to numerous reports, the film star apparently never promised model Chrissy Turlington that he would don his trainers in 2016 if she finished yesterday’s course in less than four hours. The Calvin Klein model completed the 26.2 miles in three hours 46 leading to fevered speculation that Clooney is ready to follow in her footsteps.
However, Clooney’s publicist told RadioTimes.com that his client said no such thing: “Someone made it up and told her and she responded. But George congratulates her on the marathon and the incredible work she’s done for her charity.”
Asked about it before the race, Turlington reportedly said: “Thinking about George running a marathon and having a good night’s sleep before the race will help my time.
“The moment I cross the line, I want to go for a pint.”
Turlington was just one of many celebrities who crossed the line yesterday. Double OIympic champion James Cracknell was the fastest of the famous faces clocking 2hrs 50, just ahead of Formula 1 Driver Jenson Button’s 2hrs 52.
Call the Midwife’s Helen George completed the course in 4hrs 25, while Radio 2 breakfast show host Chris Evans’s time was 4hrs 53.
