Comedian Jack Dee missed his chance to be in the Bake Off tent after a joke backfired.
Asked if he wanted to do a spot of baking for Comic Relief, Dee tells Graham Norton he wrote back to the show saying he didn’t want to take part because of “aggressive” judge Mary Berry.
“I was asked to do the Bake Off and I wrote back as a joke saying, ‘I don’t want to do it because I find Mary Berry very, very aggressive; I don’t like her at all’, Dee explains.
But the show weren’t about to have their blazer-wearing superstar misunderstood.
“They wrote back, ‘She’s actually very nice but if you don’t want to do it…’ Dee laughs adding, “I was joking!”
Now we’ll probably never know if he can whip up a Star Baker-worthy batch of scones…
Dee’s clearly missed a trick here; Jennifer Saunders makes it sound a right hoot. Joining him on the sofa, Saunders is full of praise for her – winning – celebrity Bake Off appearance: “Vodka was involved in the making of my cake and in the making of the programme. It was edited very, very kindly because we got fairly hysterical by the end.”
David Walliams, Johnny Vegas and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini also drop in for a chat.
