It’s official – Simon Pegg is living the dream.
The renowned nerd and fan of all things sci-fi seemed to have achieved all his ambitions upon being cast in 2009’s Star Trek as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, but two films later he’s taking on an even bigger role – as Star Trek 3’s co-writer.
Pegg is set to co-write the script with writer Doug Jung, taking over duties from departed writer-director Roberto Orci who left the project late last year as well as Patrick McKay and John D. Payne who had a first go at the sci-fi sequel, reports Deadline.
The film will be helmed by Fast and Furious director Justin Lin, following JJ Abrams’ departure from the franchise to concentrate on Star Wars Episode VII (which Pegg swears he won’t get involved in as well).
Pegg has previously co-written the Cornetto trilogy with director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End), the sci-fi comedy Paul with Nick Frost and seminal C4 slacker-com Spaced with actress Jessica Hynes – so perhaps we should expect a few more gags in the further voyages of the USS Enterprise.
Either way, we can safely say that Pegg’s givin’ life all she’s got.
