Joanna Lumley: doing Patsy again was just fantastic

Speaking backstage at last night's NTAs, the British actress reveals her thoughts on the Absolutely Fabulous Movie and why she'd like to do more directing

Joanna Lumley’s 50-year career was rewarded with a special recognition prize at last night’s National Television Awards. And after seeing a montage of footage of her work, from her first appearance in a Nimble bread commercial to her iconic role as fag-smoking, deep-voiced Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous, the actress came over all emotional.

“I’m so unbelievably touched and thrilled,” she told backstage after accepting her award.

So, what was it like stepping back into her Absolutely Fabulous character once again in 2012? “Doing Patsy again was just fantastic. It was like putting on jeans you hope will fit and they do.”

So what’s next for Patsy and Eddie? Well, according to Joanna an Ab Fab movie is top priority, once she gets co-star Jennifer Saunders to write it… In the meantime, the 66-year-old actress has said she’d love to do some more directing after her work behind the camera on Sky Atlantic’s Little Crackers last Christmas.
