Emmerdale spoilers: Donna reveals cancer secret to Rhona – Verity Rushworth interview

But will Rhona end up telling Marlon the truth?

Donna Windsor is to reveal the true state of her health to Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) when she’s spotted on a visit to the hospital. Donna – who has mesothelioma – breaks the news after doctors tell her that she may only have between six and 12 months left to live. Rhona is, naturally, floored by the revelation.

“Donna has just heard the news about her prognosis, so she’s really shaken up and teary,” reveals actress Verity Rushworth. “When it comes down to it, Rhona pushes her too far and Donna blurts out that she’s suffering with cancer.”

Since she returned to the village in March, Donna has been keeping her terminal diagnosis from her nearest and dearest. So is she now relieved to have told someone? “The reason why Donna admits the truth is because she needed to tell somebody. Rhona isn’t close family but is close enough to care. Donna feels like she’s got something off her chest, but then she’s panic-stricken as she wonders whether Rhona is going to tell somebody.”

Of course, the one person most in need of being put in the picture is Marlon (Mark Charnock), who has only recently learned that he is the father of Donna’s daughter April. So could Rhona take matters into her own hands and put Marlon in the picture?

“Rhona does threaten to tell Marlon and Donna pleads with her to keep it a secret,” continues Rushworth. “But Rhona insists that telling Marlon is the right thing to do. Donna is left thinking that Rhona is going to tell Marlon herself. However, you’ll have to wait and see whether Rhona does or not.”

One thing for certain, though, is that Donna faces a tough time ahead as her condition worsens: “She’s shell-shocked. She knew she was terminally ill, but she thought she had a few more years left because she’s been feeling OK. Unfortunately, the scans show that while she might feel OK, what’s happening inside is completely different. Donna is devastated.”
