One of these young men is about to get the biggest acting break of their careers. Where have you seen them before?


One of these teenage stars might just be about to land the biggest jobs of their lives: to play the next Spider-Man.


Marvel has, according to The Hollywood Reporter, narrowed its shortlist of Spider-Man hopefuls down to six young actors: Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer and Charlie Rowe.

The new Spider-Man is set to make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, before starring in his own standalone film in 2017.

Previous Spidey Andrew Garfield has been dropped in favour of a fresh start for Peter Parker, who will be a high school student in the new run of Marvel films.

But who are the actors in the running to play the webbed wonder? Read on to meet and greet.

Tom Holland

Age 19 Nationality British

Where have you seen him before? The Londoner’s biggest role to date was in Hollywood disaster film The Impossible, where Holland starred alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in a dramatisation of the 2004 Indian Ocean Boxing Day tsunami. He most recently appeared in the BBC’s Wolf Hall as Thomas Cromwell’s son Gregory. 

Did you know? He’s the son of British comedian and author Dominic Holland.

Asa Butterfield

Age 18 Nationality British

Where have you seen him before? Best known for leading roles in Holocaust drama The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Martin Scorsese’s fantasy film Hugo. The Londoner has also appeared in BBC series Merlin, Nanny McPhee Returns and Ender’s Game. 

Did you know? Butterfield’s making the most of his time in the States to act as a UK ambassador, including teaching Conan O’Brien how to correctly use the word ‘bollocks’ in conversation.


Charlie Rowe

Age 19 Nationality British

Where have you seen him before? As the lead in Peter Pan re-imagining Neverland, as well as zombie chiller Never Let Me Go. He’s best known in the US for his role in Fox comedy drama Red Band Society, but is also recognised for roles in films including The Golden Compass and The Boat That Rocked.

Did you know? He is the youngest person ever to have a leading role at London theatre The Old Vic. He had the title role in 2013 play The Winslow Boy.

Judah Lewis

Age unknown Nationality American

Where have you seen him before? Newcomer Lewis is set to appear in the remake of 90s surf crime movie Point Break, and also has a role in upcoming romantic drama Demolition.

Matthew Lintz

Age unknown Nationality American

Where have you seen him before? Lintz is set to appear this summer alongside Adam Sandler in sci-fi comedy Pixels. He’s also had roles in Halloween 2 and US TV shows Sleepy Hollow and Army Wives.

Did you know? Matt is one of four ‘Lintz Kids’ involved in TV and film.

Charlie Plummer

Nationality American

Where have you seen him before? Plummer had a recurring role in US period drama Boardwalk Empire, and recently starred in indie coming-of-age tale King Jack.


Did you know? Plummer appeared in TV series Granite Flats, also featuring his mother Maia Guest and co-written by his father John Plummer.
