Actress Paula Lane has bowed out from Coronation Street after six years, with her character Kylie Platt killed off in heartbreaking scenes just broadcast on ITV.
Kylie was seen being stabbed by the thuggish Clayton after she intervened in a showdown outside the kebab shop.

After coming to the aid of her friend Gemma, Kylie ended up getting caught in the conflict herself when she took a knife wound to the chest.
Managing to stumble back onto the Street, Kylie then died in the arms of husband David before an ambulance could reach them, her last words being, “We were great”.

In a tearjerking moment, a distraught David was seen letting out two guttural screams of anguish as his wife died before his eyes, while a helpless Gail and Bethany looked on.
Tonight’s double bill ended with David having to break the news to Max and Lily that their mum had died, while her attacker Clayton remained on the loose.

Speaking about the pivotal moment when Kylie breathed her last, actor Jack P Shepherd revealed that the tears he shed on screen were real:
“When the cameras stopped filming I couldn’t stop crying. The tears were very real. The script is superb – every word, every moment of the scene was exactly right. They are the most moving scenes I have ever had to film.
“In rehearsal, I just had to speak the lines and not look at anyone as I didn’t want to let my emotions take over too soon.”
David and Kylie had been planning a new life in Barbados at the time of her death
As for the aftermath of Kylie’s demise, Shepherd also promised that his character would revert to type and spiral out of control:
“David has to try and keep it together for the sake of the children but he wants to blame someone for what has happened. He is angry at the world – he and Kylie were so close to having the perfect life and now he is a single dad and a widower.
“He is lashing out and behaving in a way which really starts to worry his family. There’s a lot more drama in the coming months as David struggles to come to terms with losing Kylie.”
Kylie becomes a killer during Coronation Street’s 2015 live episode
During her years on Corrie, Kylie was involved in no end of drama, having debuted with a storyline that saw her sell her son to her sister Becky, before going on to do away with drug dealer Callum Logan in 2015’s live episode.
It was this last act that Paula Lane believes sealed the fate of her character. Speaking earlier this month about the decision to kill Kylie off, Lane said:
“I have to admit that when they made Kylie a murderer, I did sort of think, ‘This means something quite big now’. It does change things for the character when they commit a big crime.
“So I knew it was a possibility – they have free rein to do what they want with your character once you make that decision to leave and sometimes when it is a much-loved character, they want to go for a big impactful exit.”
