Coronation Street: Ken Barlow has a stroke – here’s what happens next

Will Ken pull through following his shock collapse?

Coronation Street stalwart Ken Barlow (William Roache) has suffered a stroke following an argument with son Peter (Chris Gascoyne).

Tonight’s double bill of the ITV soap saw Peter accuse his dad of walking away from his responsibilities, just as Ken was about to leave on an around-Europe trip.

But disaster struck when Ken collapsed at the bottom of the stairs, leaving a worried Peter rushing to his aid.

The cliffhanger had not been publicised beforehand by Coronation Street bosses, however we can reveal that Ken’s stroke will now result in both son Daniel Osbourne and grandson Adam returning to Weatherfield as part of a drive to put the Barlows front and centre of the show’s storylines.

Speaking recently, producer Kate Oates said: “The Barlows have been at the centre of Coronation Street since it started in 1960 and I felt it was time to remind ourselves of the dynasty that Ken has built up over the past 50 years.

“I am excited about the dynamics of having the different generations living together and exploring the drama that will bring.”

The state of Ken’s health will also bring Brian Packham back to town – the bumbling former headteacher keen to offer support to his friend in his hour of need. But in what state will he find Ken?
