It may be the story of a young Donna and her dynamos but Cher steals the show as Sophie’s (Amanda Seyfried) gatecrashing grandmother in Mamma Mia sequel Here We Go Again.
The pop singing legend makes a last minute entrance, playing Meryl Streep’s very own mamma (if they’d any sense they’d have called her Mia, but her character is named Ruby), who arrives to get the party started on her daughter’s beloved island.
Original Donna Streep is curiously absent from the trailer for the new film, which sees Downton Abbey’s Lily James stepping into her shoes to play her in her younger years. The movie follows the tale of Donna’s arrival on the island in the past, while Sophie comes to terms with the fact the she’s now pregnant in the present.
Jessica Keenan Wynn and Alexa Davies play the young Tanya (Christine Baranski) and Rosie (Julie Walters) while Jeremy Irvine is the young Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Josh Dylan is the young Bill (Stellan Skarsgard) and Hugh Skinner – aka Will from W1A – is a young Harry Bright (Colin Firth).
