Ross and Rachel’s break-up in Friends series three shattered hearts across the globe – and, of course, spawned the legendary “We were on a break” line.
But it had to happen for Ross and Rachel to move forward, revealed director Jim Burrows.
“You have to shake it up,” he explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “If you don’t fight, and if you don’t get angry, you have no place to go.”
When asked what his favourite Friends moment was, he said it was the prom video episode, during which Rachel finds out that Ross was ready to step in as her date.
“For me, one of the best things is at the end, when they’re all watching it, and Jennifer gets up and slowly crosses the stage to Ross. I remember David Crane [Friends co-creator] saying to me, “Isn’t that [walk] too long?” But it was a great moment. You don’t know what she’s going to do, and all of a sudden she kisses him.”
It’s all too much. Ross and Rachel, why do you do this to us?
