Marty McFly’s self-tying Back to the Future Power Laces set to become a reality

Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield announces his plans to launch a range of laces by 2015 – the year in which the film's 1989 sequel is set

There are many things Back to the Future told us we’d have by 2015 and, sadly, most haven’t materialised – flying cars, self-drying jackets and, most upsettingly, Jaws 19.

But today we can prepare to tick an item off our list as Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield announces plans to launch a range of Marty McFly’s self-tying shoelaces.

Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the super baller high-tops Michael J Fox sported in Back to the Future II. Rewind to 2011 and Nike prematurely excited fans with a limited edition range of the Nike Air MAG which they auctioned on eBay in aid of the Micahel J Fox Foundation. However, the power laces themselves have been decidedly missing… until now.

Speaking at an event in New Orleans, Hatfield revealed that the futuristic sneakers will be made available in 2015 – the exact year in which the movie is set.

We’re still waiting on those hoverboards…
