Big shiny robots meet normal-sized medieval knights and Nazis in the gritty first Transformers: The Last Knight trailer

Also: Anthony Hopkins! And Mecha-dragons!

“Two species at war….one flesh, one metal,” Anthony Hopkins intones near the beginning of this video, and you’d be forgiven for thinking (or hoping) that you were watching a Westworld clip. Alas, instead this is Hopkins joining Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise in the action-packed first trailer for Transformers 5, aka The Last Knight.

Over footage of explosions at Nazi bases, battles in medieval England and mecha dragons soaring through the sky, Hopkins continues: “One hundred billion trillion planets in the cosmos… You want to know, don’t you? Why they keep coming here?”

We’re guessing the answer is probably something about magic or King Arthur, which may also explain why there is a Autobot-dragon zipping about.

Anyway, no doubt the truth will be uncovered by returning stars Mark Wahlberg, John Turturro and Josh Duhamel as they drive around in cool cars, jump off cool buildings and fire cool guns in the air, and then we’ll all have forgotten it by the time of the planned Transformers 6, and 7. You know, just like all the previous films.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in June 2017
