Emmerdale: it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Snow has covered the exterior set of the ITV soap

The Emmerdale village has been covered with a blanket of snow for its Christmas episodes – and this time it’s not fake, but the real deal.

With soaps having to film their festive episodes a few months in advance, the production team is usually called upon to provide artificial snow. But surprise cold weather has left the Yorkshire-based village looking like a snowy picture postcard, as this Instagram snap from actress Gemma Atkinson demonstrates.

The downfall has meant that tweaks have had to be made to filming. This year’s Christmas Day episode was meant to end with snow starting to settle, but opening scenes filmed in the village will now be looking more festive than originally intended.

“There was meant to be snow starting in the end scene in a depressing way, but we’ve just shot the first scene of the Christmas episode and it’s already covered in snow,” said actor Steve Halliwell, who plays Zak Dingle. “We’ve had to adapt it so that there was already snow. We had bought a lot of artificial snow to use this afternoon!”
