Diane is to bump into a familiar face in the coming weeks when she realises that the man sitting next to her at a chemo appointment is Aaron’s dad Gordon Livesy. And it turns out that he too is seeking treatment for cancer.
“Yes, he’s got Hodgkin’s Lymphoma,” explains Gary Mavers, who will make his Emmerdale debut in the coming weeks. “He’s sitting around dwelling on things and wondering if he could done better in his past, particularly in his relationships with Chas and Aaron.”
And does the fact that Gordon is ill mean that he’ll now want to contact his ex-partner and son? “Well, after meeting Diane and talking things through, he hatches a plan to get back in touch and make things right, As you do in that situation.”
Diane will be seen telling Gordon that perhaps now isn’t the best time for him to approach Chas, what with her currently dealing with her diagnosis of post traumatic stress disorder. But it seems that Gordon is set to come face to face with both Chas and Aaron at some point in the near future.
As series producer Kate Oates mentioned to RadioTimes.com: “The big issue will be how Chas and Aaron respond to what’s happening. There will be some twists and turns and – as always in soapland – nothing is as it seems.”
As for how Mavers is settling in to life on the ITV soap, it seems he couldn’t be happier. “I’m delighted. I’ve never done a soap before and everyone is really on top of their game. As an actor, you love being busy and this has been a baptism of fire!”
