MasterChef: the five stages of eating an avocado cheesecake

Confusion, fear, denial... John Torode, Gregg Wallace and last night's returning champs didn't take to this green offering...

There are plenty of firsts on MasterChef – naturally contestants want to show off their imaginative skills in the kitchen – but this doesn’t always result in seconds, as with last night’s misguidedly adventurous avocado cheesecake.

Contestant Olivia had already rocked the good MasterChef ship by serving up a plate containing just pea puree (she must like green) as her meat wasn’t ready in time. And her avocado cheesecake couldn’t quite save her. Enjoying (or perhaps enduring) said green dessert required several stages…

Confusion

Thought a cake of cheese was disconcerting? Well, now there’s a cheesecake of avocado… The delicious green gooeyness has started to become quite trendy in desserts – avocado brownies are quite the ‘in thing’, don’t you know? – but an avocado cheesecake doesn’t sit right with these previous winners.

Comparison

Attempts to make sense of the dessert by simile are rather futile…

Fear

There’s no turning back. You have to try it to judge it…

Even if it is the smallest piece of cake anyone has ever consumed…

Denial

Maybe it won’t be that bad…

Ah…

Acceptance

Two faces that say they’ll never eat an avocado cheesecake again…
