Sitcom spin-offs vary massively. For every Frasier there are about five Joeys.

However, if the trailer for Young Sheldon is anything to go by it looks like this prequel spin-off of The Big Bang Theory could well be a hit.

Starring Big Little Lies actor Iain Armitage as a nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper, the story is set in 1989.

The comedy, which came from an idea by Big Bang actor Jim Parsons, is executive-produced by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Parsons, who also narrates the story.

It reveals how Sheldon, living with his brother and sister in Texas, was fast-forwarded through four grades at school because of his genius and  – surprise, surprise – he didn’t exactly fit in.
