BBC3 to establish new base in Birmingham

Several of the channel's teams, including short-form content and social media, will relocate to the Midlands city by 2018

The BBC has announced it will build on its existing £125m investment in Birmingham by creating a new dual base for BBC Three in the city.

The plans come as the government publishes its White Paper on the future of the BBC.

The Corporation said the plans for the channel, which went online-only in February, meant a £10m boost for “fresh talent and innovative digital content for young audiences”.

BBC Three’s short-form programmes and films, and the social media team that works to promote it, would move to Birmingham by 2018 under these new proposals.
