EastEnders actor Harry Reid has described the upcoming return of both Grant and Peggy Mitchell as a dream come true.
Reid, who plays the role of Ben Mitchell in the BBC1 soap, said of the two Walford comebacks: “First, I get to do the live episodes. Then Gillian Taylforth comes back. And now this! I’m really excited and I know everyone else is too. Jamie Borthwick [Jay] and I have always dreamed of having Ben, Jay, Phil and Grant in the same room.
“And I’ve met Barbara Windsor, who’s the nicest, most lovely woman in the world. So to hopefully work with her during her last days as Peggy will be an absolute privilege. I’ve heard stories, though, that she’s quite strict on set, so I’m going to do my homework.”
Ross Kemp wil return to Albert Square this spring for the first time in a decade as Grant arrives home in time for mum Peggy’s death.
The emotional scenes will also mark the end of Barbara Windsor’s two decade association with EastEnders as the character of Peggy bows out for good.
Speaking about whether he’s daunted at thought of filming the key scenes, Reid added: “It’s not daunting, just exciting to be given an opportunity to work with someone who’s so experienced in this business. She’s one of the best.”
