Actress Sally Ann Matthews is to make a return to Coronation Street as Rita’s foster daughter Jenny Bradley.
Matthews – who originally appeared on the ITV soap between 1986 and 1991 before making a brief comeback in 1993 – will be back on screens this winter, show boss Stuart Blackburn confirmed today.
The character of Jenny arrived in Weatherfield in the mid-1980s when she came to live with Rita (Barbara Knox) following the death of her mum in a road accident.
She later re-established a relationship with her dad Alan, only for him to later swindle and attempt to kill Rita. Jenny then sided with her dad after he was arrested, even going so far as to blame Rita for Alan’s death after he was hit by a Blackpool tram.
Reports emerged earlier this month that the actress was in talks to reprise her role, but producer Stuart Blackburn made the official confirmation at a press event this afternoon in Manchester.
