Wednesday night’s National Television Awards 2014 saw the cast of Coronation Street take home the prize for best Serial Drama.
It has been a bumper year of drama in Soapland. Forbidden love, marriage and murder have swept down the dales, along the cobbles and through the Square.
But it was Coronation Street that grabbed victory, with viewers rewarding an emotional year that included the high-profile ‘right to die” storyline that earlier in the evening had helped Julie Hesmondhalgh to her own gong.
The award was presented by a member of the public plucked out of the O2 Arena audience by host Dermot O’Leary.
