Freddie Flintoff has joined the cast of a new BBC1 drama. (Yes, you read that right…)
The former England cricketer and TV personality may be best known nowadays for fronting brilliantly-titled Sky documentaries and hoofing around with James Corden on A League of Their Own, but he’s soon to add another string to his bow: acting.
Flintoff is to appear in an episode of Love, Lies & Records – a new six-part series headed for TV screens this autumn.
The drama comes from the pen of Kay Mellor, known for Fat Friends and In the Club, and stars the likes of Ashley Jenson and Rebecca Front. It will follow Kate Dickenson as she reaches the top of her profession as Superintendent but struggles to juggle her personal life with the daily dramas of her job.
Flintoff is due to make his acting debut in episode six, alongside Let It Shine finalist Jonnie Halliwell. And it’s not the only acting he’s got planned – today also sees him announced among the cast of Fat Friends: the musical, a new touring production inspired by Mellor’s TV series of the same name.
Will he knock it for six and win over TV viewers and theatre-goers – or be out for a duck?
