Here’s why the original Star Wars wasn’t as good as you remember

Whiny teenagers, gentle lightsaber-poking and ropey effects – how did we miss all these failures?

It’s easy to mythologise your favourite films from when you were a kid, and the original Star Wars film is no exception. When you were 6 years old the adventures of Luke, Han Solo et al were amazing adventures without fault, and as you’ve grown they’ve only become more perfect through your rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia.

But nothing can last for ever – and now the team at Honest Trailers have shattered our happy movie memories forever with this meticulous dissection of all the movie’s faults. Hooray!

Whether it’s the whininess of Luke Skywalker, the frequent plot holes or the fact that the climactic lightsaber duel is basically “two old geezers [who] gently poke at each other”, it’s definitely cast one of our favourite movies in a less flattering light – and we have to admit, we never noticed the crap-looking werewolf in the cantina.

All in all, it’s a bit of a wake up call; but we mustn’t lose perspective. No matter what happens, we can all agree episode IV is still a million miles better than the prequels.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is released on 17th December
