Coronation Street: Anna to have “horrific” new showdown with Phelan, reveals Debbie Rush

"She knows he still has power over her and there's nothing she can do about it"

Villainous Pat Phelan will have a new showdown with Anna Windass in the run-up to Christmas when he discovers that she’s been sending him hate mail. Coronation Street scenes to be shown later in December will see Phelan menacingly reveal he knows she’s behind the poison-pen letters and that if she gives him any more grief, he’ll call the police.

Says actress Debbie Rush: “Anna is still terrified of Phelan, so to have him threaten her in that way when she’s already feeling vulnerable is horrific. She knows he still has power over her and there’s nothing she can do about it now as she has handed him a trump card.”

In the wake of the confrontation, a rage-filled Kevin will end up flying at Phelan at the builders’ yard, accusing him of deliberately trying to destroy Anna. So is Anna glad to have Kev fighting her corner?

“She is but she’s worried for Kevin. She knows what Phelan is capable of, so while it’s nice that someone believes her and she’s not on her own, she knows it could spell trouble for Kevin.”

And trouble will be coming sooner than either Kevin or Anna is expecting. A shock attack on Phelan will see Kevin become prime suspect in the eyes of the police after the real culprit – Andy Carver – tries to shift the blame. So what would it do to Anna if Kevin ended up carrying the can for the crime?

Adds Rush: “That is what she’s terrified of. When Phelan is attacked just after Kevin has been to see him she knows the finger of blame could point at him. Phelan has destroyed her life before and she doesn’t want that to happen again.”
