The Walford star – who currently plays Jordan Johnson on the BBC1 soap – has said that he’d relish the chance to reprise the role of graffiti artist Rigsy.

“In the future, you never know,” said Wade, when asked whether he’d be willing to accompany the Doctor on upcoming adventures. “To play a Doctor Who companion is definitely a dream. Never say never and let’s see what happens. But yes, I love Doctor Who.”

The 22-year-old featured in two episodes of the sci-fi drama (2014’s Flatline and 2015’s Face the Raven) before going on to land the role of serial killer Lucas’s son on EastEnders.

Looking back on a whirlwind couple of years in terms of his career, the actor added: “I think it’s really going to help in terms of my profile. Doctor Who and EastEnders are two of the biggest shows to come out of this country and recognised around the world. I think it’s going to change my life.”

Next week’s episodes of EastEnders will see Jordan come face to face with his incarcerated dad Lucas when he visits him in prison. But with question marks still hanging over Jordan’s motivations, viewers will have to see whether he’s about to bring trouble to the door of Lucas’s ex-wife Denise.

Asked whether he would enjoy it should Jordan turn out to be a bad boy, Wade commented: “I really thrive when playing characters who are as far away from me as possible. Hopefully this will give broadcasters and producers the confidence to let me play roles that aren’t as close to me.

“In the past, I’ve played the sweet boy and the charming guy. But you get to a place where you want to do more interesting, fun stuff and really act. That’s what you sign up for when you become an actor.”
