EastEnders actress Jasmyn Banks, who plays Alice Branning, is to leave the BBC1 soap.
Banks, 22, first appeared in Albert Square back in May 2012, but will leave this autumn as part of a plotline that will also see the death of Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd).
A spokesperson for the show said today: “We can confirm that Jasmyn will be leaving EastEnders later this year. We wish her all the best for the future.”
Responding to the news, Banks messaged on Twitter: “Thanks so much to everyone wishing me well you’ve made me smile, but fear not there’s still a lot to come on screen for Alice #staytuned.”
In recent months, viewers have seen Alice become increasingly infatuated with the menacing Michael Moon as he attempts to gain custody of his daughter Scarlett from ex-wife Janine (Charlie Brooks):
“Janine and Michael will really up the ante in terms of how far they’ll go for baby Scarlett,” a show insider recently told RadioTimes.com of developments in the storyline. “Expect many twists and turns as Michael’s manipulation of Alice increases.”
