The Simpsons includes a touching tribute to co-creator Sam Simon in post-credits scene

The show's executive producer and former creative supervisor passed away last week following a long battle with cancer

He helped to bring Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie to life so it was only fitting that The Simpsons paid tribute to Sam Simon following his death last week.

A brief but poignant credits sequence featured old footage of Simon talking about working on the show and heralded him as one of the “greatest comic minds ever”.

The co-creator of the long-running animated series passed away at his home in Los Angeles last week, having battled cancer for several years. He was 59 years old.

Simon, an acclaimed writer, director and philanthropist, worked with Matt Groening and James L. Brooks on the series from 1989 to 1993 before leaving to pursue other projects, although continuing to be credited as an executive producer.

His ex-wife, Jennifer Tilly, also shared a photo from Simon’s funeral which featured another moving tribute to The Simpsons co-creator.
