Simon Cowell accuses The Voice USA of “dirty tricks”

Media mogul says NBC don't want their viewers to see Britney Spears on Fox "because they've heard how good the series is"

American TV network NBC has angered music mogul Simon Cowell by pitting the US version of The Voice against his American take on The X Factor.

The talent shows will go head to head for prime time ratings on Wednesday 12 September. The Voice, whose judges include Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green, was originally scheduled to run on just Mondays and Tuesdays, but NBC have added a third hour-long programme on Wednesday which will clash with the first part of The X Factor USA’s season premiere on Fox.

“These guys have really got it in for us. It’s nothing short of dirty tricks,” Cowell told TMZ.

“The reason they’ve done this is they don’t want people to see X Factor because they’ve heard how good the series is. They don’t want their audience to see Britney Spears. They don’t want their audience to see Demi Lovato.”

The judge and TV producer appeared to have taken the change in scheduling personally and implied his co-hosts would too, saying: “Britney’s not going to appreciate the fact that Christina – who has been a bit of a rival – isn’t allowing Britney to have a night of her own… She’s going to be devastated because she’s put her heart and soul into this.”
