The first full trailer for Steven Spielberg’s virtual reality epic Ready Player One has been released, and it is brimming with references to King Kong, the DC universe and 1980s horror legend Chucky, to name but a few.

The clip introduces us to Tye Sheridan’s Wade, an orphan in the year 2045 who turns to a hyper-realistic virtual reality game to instil meaning into his life, on a quest for a literal hidden Easter egg in a virtual universe known as the OASIS.

Things get messy, however, when the life-and-death jeopardy of the video game begins to bleed into real life, and a giant corporation, run by Ben Mendelsohn’s villain Nolan Sorrento, attempts to seize control of the OASIS.

Check the clip out below.

Soon after the trailer dropped, eagle-eyed fans took to Twitter to point out all the brief cameos:

There was troublesome ape King Kong:

Overwatch’s Tracer:

Terrifying horror movie doll Chucky:

Harley Quinn and the Joker:

Though, not everyone was happy about the prospect of the film being jam-packed with ghosts of pop culture’s past:

Ready Player One will be released in UK cinemas on 30th March 2018.
