First: an eclipse. Then: Facebook goes down. Tomorrow: apocalypse?
Users worldwide are reporting problems accessing Facebook, the online equivalent of the ravens leaving the Tower of London. It’s not affecting everyone, with even the Radio Times office divided between Haves and HaveNo-Faces. While the problem connecting appears to be confined to desktops – and some on social media are claiming the outage is ‘catastrophic’ – the exact cause and extent of the problem is unclear.
Nevertheless, reports of issues have spiked since this morning, according to DownDetector.uk
It’s a scary time for us all, but luckily there appears to be an easy fix.
Mac: Hold down shift and hit refresh in your browser.
PC: Hold down control and hit refresh in your browser.
This is a ‘hard refresh’. It clears the cache on your browser –the temporary files a machine uses to construct a website – and downloads clean new ones. It worked for us, and hopefully will for you too.
